1in8b saves your life in the browser you play in. To return, open the original game in that same browser and choose Continue. To switch browsers or phones, use Move my lives → Make a moving code, then enter it in the destination browser and choose Bring them.
The moving code works once and expires after three days. Keep the original browser’s data until you have checked the transferred character. A moving code is a temporary transfer, rather than a permanent backup file.
Checked on October 27, 2026, in the English version of the original game at 1in8b.life, v0.8.54 beta. We transferred an unfinished life between two separate browser storage environments, opened the character, and checked that it remained after a refresh. This is an independent player guide.
Save and continue in the same browser
You do not need an account or a manual save slot for an ordinary local save. The original game keeps progress in the browser where you played.
- If you are leaving an active life, Pause it while you check where you are.
- On desktop, Exit returns to the first screen. In our check, it left a Continue button showing the character’s name, age and country.
- When you return to 1in8b.life/en/ in the same browser, choose Continue for that character.
The game also says you can close the page and continue when you come back in the same browser. The important part is returning to the same saved data: opening Chrome after playing in Safari, for example, is a different situation.
Before leaving, note the character’s name and age. That gives you something concrete to check when you return. A screenshot can help you remember those details, but it cannot restore playable progress on its own.
Move your save to another browser or phone
You need access to the browser that still contains the life. Start there, rather than trying to sign in on the new device.
1. Make a code in the original browser
- Open the original game’s first screen.
- Find Move my lives, under Your records in the Past lives area or near the bottom of the page.
- Check the summary under Send the lives in this browser. It should describe the records you expect to move.
- Select Make a moving code.
- Keep the code, or use Copy address to copy its transfer link.
The generated link can be opened in the browser where you want the records to go. For our test, we used the code-entry route below, so we could check the receiving browser before importing anything.
2. Bring the life into the destination browser
- On the new phone or in the other browser, open 1in8b.life/en/.
- Open Move my lives there too.
- Under Bring lives from elsewhere, enter the code in Moving code.
- Select Bring them and wait for the result.
- Open Continue and check the character before relying on the transfer.
In our test, an empty receiving browser imported David Mutombo, age 0, DR Congo. The game confirmed that the life in progress had arrived. Continue opened David’s birth record, and we could begin that same life. After pausing, using Exit and refreshing the page, his Continue button was still present.
The original browser also kept David’s record. The transfer screen explicitly says records stay there too. Moving a life does not mean you should immediately erase its original copy.
3. Check before clearing anything
Compare the name, country and age on both sides. For an older character, also look for familiar recent entries in the life record. If you moved completed lives, check the Past lives list and open the records you care about.
We tested an unfinished life entering an empty destination. We did not test what happens when both browsers already have different unfinished lives. Keep both originals in that situation and read any current conflict prompt before proceeding.
What moves, and what does not become a backup?
The developer’s Keepsake help says the transfer carries past lives, the life in progress and memorials made in that browser. Our hands-on test confirms the unfinished-life part; it did not include a completed-life collection or a paid pass.
| What you keep | What to use it for |
|---|---|
| Browser-local progress | Continuing in the same browser while its site data remains available. |
| A moving code or transfer link | A one-time move, within three days. Generate a fresh one for another transfer. |
| A screenshot or share card | Remembering or sharing a life. It is not a playable save. |
| An optional server copy with a keepsake pass | A separate backup feature described by the developer; check that it is enabled before relying on it. |
The current official privacy policy describes an opt-in setting called Keep my past lives on the server too for pass holders, with restoration through the pass. We did not buy a pass or test that recovery flow. A local save or a newly generated moving code does not by itself establish that this server backup is enabled.
Why your 1in8b save may seem to be missing
You opened a different browser or an in-app browser
A link opened inside a social app may use different storage from your normal browser. Go back to the app or browser where you actually played and look for Continue or Past lives there. If the records are present, make a fresh moving code and transfer them.
Also check the hostname: this guide is for 1in8b.life. A similarly named website does not automatically contain the original game’s saves.
You played in a private window
Do not rely on a private session to keep a life for another day. If the records are still available, move them into your normal browser before ending the private session. We used a temporary private window only to give this test an empty destination; it is not our recommendation for storing your lives.
The browser’s site data was cleared
A code made afterward in an empty browser cannot reconstruct deleted local records. First check whether another browser still has a copy. If you had already enabled the optional server backup, follow the game’s current pass and restore instructions. We have not verified that paid recovery route.
Avoid clearing site data as an early troubleshooting step when it holds your only copy.
An older completed life no longer has its full record
The official help page currently says that without a pass, only the ten most recent lives are kept in full. A past-life entry without See again may contain only a summary. A transfer cannot be assumed to recreate details the source browser no longer holds.
If your moving code does not work
In our test, entering the same code again after a successful import produced a message saying it could not be found and might already be used or more than three days old. That is different from proof that the original life has been lost.
Return to the browser that still contains the records, check its character summary, and make a new code. Use the new code in the intended destination. If it still fails, record the exact message, game version and browsers involved for the original game’s support or feedback channel. Keep transfer codes out of public posts.
Anyone holding a valid code can take the records, according to the game’s privacy policy. It also says the transfer includes notes and farewells. Treat the link as private, even when the character itself is fictional.
Before your next life
Check that the life you want to keep is available where you expect it to be. A minute spent checking a character’s name is much easier than discovering later that you played in a browser you can no longer access.
Once your save is secure, our guide to automatic gifts and recurring spending can help you review the money settings in an ongoing life. For an example of why a record is worth keeping, read Ivan’s 94-year life in Bulgaria and Germany.
