A place for what stays with you.
You finish a life. Close the tab. Go back to your day.
But sometimes you keep thinking about the person you just played. The school they couldn’t attend. The family they tried to support. A choice you made quickly, and wondered about afterward.
1in8b.blog is an independent journal about those moments. We write about 1 in 8 Billion, the browser life simulation, and the questions it brings into view: chance, money, care, opportunity, and the many ways a life can unfold.
The idea is simple: make room for players to compare experiences, understand a confusing part of the game, and think about the lives behind its numbers. The journal begins with useful writing, and we hope it becomes a thoughtful conversation over time.
Three ways into the journal
- Guides offer practical help with settings and game mechanics, checked in the original game.
- Reflections collect the questions those experiences leave behind: about opportunity, money, family, and the choices we make.
- Lives tell the stories of characters we have actually played, using saved game records rather than invented events.
You can come for an answer and leave with something to think about. The journal grows one carefully considered article at a time.
How we check our guides
For the gift guide, we opened the English version of the original game, played a separate test life, and checked the relevant controls in desktop Chrome. We recorded the game version, captured screenshots, and checked that the selected settings remained after reopening the panel.
We distinguish a control we tested from an outcome we cannot promise. One character’s experience is an example, not proof that every life will follow the same route. Check dates and game versions appear in guides because a beta can change.
If you spot a difference in a newer version, compare the article’s check date with the version you are playing.
A simulated life has limits
Our playthroughs describe fictional characters. They are not forecasts of a real person’s future, and a country average cannot tell the full story of an individual or a community. A game can open a question without answering everything about the people it represents.
The story of Ivan Mihaylov is based on the player’s saved Chinese-language record. Its English narration translates and reflects on that record; missing dates and events are not filled in as facts.
When we discuss the game’s data, we link to the original source or identify the game version we checked. Our interpretations of a life are reflections, rather than the developer’s statements.
